Zabaleta did OK. His covering winger didn't. You'll always imagine the problems with him because you slated him before he played a game.

With Rashford, Lukaku and Mkhihitarian and Mata Pogba and Matic running midfield we needed 3 CB's to stand a chance. The manager's naive tactics lost that game.

Re: ⚽ Man Utd v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 4-0
Playing three CBs stopped the rot as in getting hammered every week but we looked terrible going forward in that formation and it isn't the answer unless we want to play for a draw every week. Obviously signing a pensioner at right back was not the way to solve the problem as he got roasted time and time again today so who knows what the dismal Bilic will come up with. I expect he'll blindly do the same thing with slightly different personnel until he gets a result.

Re: ⚽ Man Utd v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 4-0
Seriously people. We are bottom because the manager made the wrong choices. We did well last season playing 3 CB's. So we start all pre-season friendlies with 2 CB's and don't impress. We then go to Old Trafford and repet.

At 2-0 down we bring on another striker and take of a DM to go 4-4-2. Away at Old Trafford. Brave or stupid? Well I don't advocate BFS tactics but this was a game where we needed to defend. Not stick 2 forwards and 2 wingers up top.

That's why we are rock bottom. We start handicappped by idiotic management and I say that with deep regret. It would be fantastic to keep Bilic for years to come but he is seriously clueless...

Anyone that buys Zaza, Tore and Ayew for big money has serious judgement problems imho. Declan Rice was one good thing to come out of the debacle this afternoon. For an 18 year old we have a serious talent on our hands. Shame we have a manager that doesn't know WTF he's doing....

I believe the players like Bilić though.

So if today the performance was unacceptable, and it was, there is a chance they'll up it once the pressure on him is on like the Spurs game last season.

The fans need to provide that pressure.

Bilić sort it or fuck off!

Re: ⚽ Man Utd v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 4-0
I watched a lot of football this weekend. Watford, Burnley, Huddersfield and even Brighton all played superior opposition.

All of them went out with a discernible plan which, other than Brighton, didn't consist exclusively of sitting as deep as possible, surrendering possession and hoping the opposition will fuck up and gift you something. Stoke went to Everton and were a fuck's site more enterprising, organised, committed and entertaining than us.

That's right. Stoke.

All right, Fernandes is an appallingly poor player, Masuaku, Reid, Ogbonna and Obiang all had shockers, but some of that latter group are decent players. I posted on this thread before the match that I'd have had Rice in for Fernandes and that playing Ayew in front of Zabaleta was a risk. I don't think I was alone in that or that it was some kind of epiphanic moment of tactical or selectorial grace.

More importantly, however, if you treat possession of the football as a negative - and this seems to me inherent to the way Bilic organises his sides - it's not surprising that when you do have the ball you treat it like a hot potato and don't know what the fuck to do with it.

No matter who you play, if you practice and set up to play like this - and on the evidence of the past two years (other than when we had one of the best players in Europe making a difference all on his own), Bilic almost always does - it shouldn't come as a surprise when you invite the sort of pressure that will make even decent players look poor.

This isn't down to Noble. We had four new signings on the pitch today. Did anyone discern any notable difference in style, shape or attitude than that witnessed in a multitude of abject performances under Bilic ?

I said on here before the game, I fully expect West Ham to lose to Man Utd at Old Trafford. But I also expect to see some sign, however minor, of progress in how we go about our business on the pitch. Now I might have missed it, but I would be very grateful to anyone who could point to any such evidence.

OK, bring in Carvalho. I'm sure he'll make a difference. Ultimately, however, we'll only be papering over the cracks. Fuck today, it isn't about today. There's been a common denominator here for a long enough period and and it isn't fucking Noble.

We'll still be shit with Antonio and Lanzini back. We're unfit and we haven't got a plan. Down to the manager. He should have gone before christmas last season and it's ridiculous that he's still here serving up the same shit now.

Owners have no ambition, only if he looks like relegating us will they act. After our first three away games he, judging by today's fiasco, will likely be under all sorts of pressure.

What we lack is leadership and that starts from the top.

Just watched Slaven's post match interview, you cannot fault what he said however, the basis of the problems start with him.

I am still a fan but you have to be realistic. Today's performance was unacceptable. If he cannot change that very quickly it will mean a change sooner rather than later assuming the right replacement is on the wings

Been a big believer of bilic. but got the tactics wrong today. Everyone of them players were spineless except hernandez and rice. No one pressed, pressured there defence. They had one player dancing around 3 of ours on occasions. Just shows we need more signings fast.

Watching the match with joe royal here in oslo, I actually mentioned just before the 2nd goal that I didn't like the way Masuaka was laughing and joking with someone seconds before the cross came in, which Lukaku got to far too easily.

That was symptomatic of the whole performance, not enough intensity anywhere on the pitch. I know they have a superior squad, but we did nothing to try to level the playing field.

Wake up West Ham FFS!

I agree about Noble, he was far better than Obiang today. Hopefully a one off from Obiang as he was decent last season.

Masuaku was loved by most on here after a handful of appearances but I never understood why. He was okay at the start for us but nothing more than that.

The reality is that we had three attacking players who cost £60m between them so we should have still created more than we did. A very bad day at the office, Man Utd looked good but we contributed hugely to that.

Rice is going to be a great player. He oozes class and composure. Early signs are that he could definitely handle the Premier League this season.

This result was going before we even kicked off. Our pre season was woeful. I accept results of pre season games don't matter but i would have at least expected to see the starting 11 or something near to it at least starting a few games together.

We've got four new starters, surely pre season is about gelling the team and getting them to understand how each other plays.

Instead of that we fucked around taking Arnie off when brought on hernandez and not once did we play a whole game that resembled anything near our starting 11.

A total waste of time, as the result today showed.

Agree about noble and the same could be said of Zabaleta, if the spineless fannies Ayew, Obiang, Masuaku and Arnoutavic had have half of the spirit them two had we wouldn't have got gubbed 4

Forgot to mention Rice who as others said, at least showed commitment and moved the ball with intelligence and tried to limit them.

But the conclusion for me is that we need a better coach / manager than Bilic and team regardless of the players we have.

Sir Alf 9:43 Sun Aug 13
Re: ⚽ Man Utd v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 4-0
What to say after that. I was thinking before the game we needed to put in a performance.

I would on this game disagree on Noble. He was about the only midfielder really trying even if his older, slow body had him chasing shadows.

They were simply stronger and pacier all through the team. But Bilic made it easier for them with his substitutions.

What concerns everyone I was watching with is that the underlying issue has not been addressed and even Cavalaho aint the "silver bullet". "Intensity" or lack of it. I watched Huddersfield yesterday, they were like a pack of dogs as they closed, harried and never stopped putting their bodies on the line. We looked like we have always under Bilic, like we want time and simply did not press. The midfield was powder puff and standing off and when we did challenge we were easily brushed aside.

Obiang was poor today, as was Reid, Ogbonna, Arfur was diabolically bad and worthy of special mention. Ayew did nothing and Fernandes was also shocking in terms of intensity and commitment. The unfit Sakho did more than Ayew did all game.

Only players to come out with any credit were Zabaletta who was cruelly over exposed and got no support from Ayew or even Arnautovic when he switched briefly, Hernandes who kept plugging away with no service or support, Noble for trying as the best of a bad bunch in midfield. Hart did ok too.

As for Oggy and Reid, they looked totally exposed for pace too and there was no leadership.

So many problems that were apparent last season and have been evident in preseason.

Sorry but Bilic is now the biggest issue. He needs to be a lot more demanding and get the team fit and fighting for everything. Alas he cannot seem to and tactically he gets it wrong more than he gets it right.

We miss Antonio and Lanzini twofold; they're not only our best players, they have the most positive spirit and attitude, which raises the fame of those around them. We weren't at the races this afternoon, but need to learn from it.
